Privacy Policy

Who I am

My website address is: https://thesouloftheearth.com.

Comments

When you leave comments on the site the data shown in the comments form is collected. Your IP address and browser user agent string help spam detection through the automated spam detection service I use, Akismet

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using a gravatar. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you include an image with your comment, you should avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can extract location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Two essays on this site include embedded content in the form of videos. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites are governed by their own privacy policies and may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

Who else sees your data

When you subscribe, the email service MadMimi stores your data for 12 months. They keep your email address on the subscription list. They record if you open an email from The Soul of the Earth, if you click through to the website, if you forward the mailer or share it on social media. They do nothing with that information except inform me.

With whom else do I share your data?

Other than as outlined here, absolutely no one.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so any future comments are recognized and approved automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Your rights over your data

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data the site holds, including any data you have provided. You can also request that any personal data we hold about you be erased. This does not include any data required for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
